Met Gala How-to
May 2, 2016
WHO: Amber Heard
HAIR BY: Celebrity Hairstylist, Robert Vetica for Olivia Garden
INSPIRATION: “Amber’s dress was simply divine, a classic gold custom gown by Ralph Lauren. I wanted to capture the gilded shine of her gown with sleek, yet daring volume. I was inspired by the women of the 60’s, like Ursula Andress, that had a polished, feminine finish, yet undeniable edge. Amber's hair was very long and we added tremendous volume to the top, giving way to effortless waves that added body and spoke to the movement of the dress.
“Amber is such a classic beauty. She is graceful and statuesque. We wanted to capture all of those elements through her look. The final style complimented her beautifully, and created an overall timeless look that was simple, yet strikingly gorgeous.” – Robert Vetica for Olivia Garden
1. To give Amber her 60’s-inspired volume, I started with damp hair and applied a volume boosting mousse to hold that extra volume I wanted all night long. The product gives hair a strong foundation for styling. I then brushed her hair from root to tip with Olivia Garden FingerBrush Vented Hair Brush to distribute the product evenly and brush out any tangles. To blow dry the hair, I used Olivia Garden Divine Care & Style Brush to create a sleek blowout with an emphasis on a far left side part, brushing hair away from the face.
2. After the hair was dry, I sectioned off the whole crown of her head and separated it into two-inch sections. I then used Olivia Garden Style-Up Teasing Folding Brush to tease the hair at the root of each section and sprayed hairspray to set and hold the volume. On each side of the head I repeated the teasing with two-inch sections.
3. For the bottom, I created three to four-inch pin curls and secured with Olivia Garden Double Clips, then sprayed with hairspray as the curls set. Once curls held for a few minutes, I removed the clips and brushed the hair out with Olivia Garden Divine Care & Style Brush to create the smooth finished look.
